About us

Vandervells was established in 1962 and has operated mostly but not exclusively in the southern half of the UK continuously throughout that period through all economic cycles including three recessions. We have vast experience of all sectors, including Care, Child Care, Catering, Hospitality, Licensed Trade, Retail, Post Offices, Franchises, Kennels and Catteries and SME.

Our Team

We have evolved over the years and Vandervells LLP is now the 21st century version of the original company. It is a
dynamic and expanding group of Partners and Associate Partners with a core of senior members with a wealth of
experience in the industry. We are committed to retaining our values of ethical personal service.

John Joyce


Partner John Joyce operates from the Bristol Office and as far afield as required. Following a career taking him to an NHS management role, then subsequent business ownership he became Regional Director of the West Country Office of Redwoods from the late 1990’s until 2005.
This highly successful 10 office operation was targeted and acquired by the then Dipford Group after thoroughly researching every multi office business agency group in search of a suitable acquisition. During this period John sometimes worked on a joint basis with the Vandervells Cornwall Office to mutual benefit, forming a lasting link.
Dipford subsequently closed all the regional offices and moved the Redwoods operation to a single office in Yorkshire with a more call centre ethos. John continued selling businesses with BTB and Businesses West Country until 2009, eventually formalising the link with Vandervells by establishing the Bristol Office. He then took over Vandervells completely following the untimely passing of fellow director of 25 years John Blakey in early 2012.

Following a successful period of working together , John and Guy took the existing Vandervels into a Limited Liability Partnership in 2013 forming the current Vandervells LLP.

Guy Hewson


Guy Hewson joined as Partner in 2013 having worked with John for some time prior to that. Guy brings a 25 year plus background in the City, specifically in broking, underwriting and property related transactions.

Guy operates generically from the Taunton Office. In addition to business appraisals he also utilises his negotiating and communication skills practised throughout his career in ensuring the sometimes complicated process of buying and selling a business is shepherded through to a successful completion.

Alistair Hill

Associate Partner Stephen Hogg opened up our Midlands office, based around Bedford, in early 2016. His 30 years of business experience has been across a broad spectrum of different industry sectors in numerous senior roles. This overall knowledge allows him to bring a thorough approach to his clients and has enabled him to help many business owners through the tricky path to completing the sale of their business. The Midlands office covers Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and Northamptonshire.
